Four Wheeler Magazine has provided off-road enthusiasts with the latest news about 4×4 trucks and SUVs since 1962. In its latest assessment of capable SUVs, it named the Jeep® Wrangler Rubicon 392 the 2022 Four Wheeler SUV of the Year.
“Jeep®’s Wrangler Rubicon 392 may just be the pinnacle of factory off-road performance. For generations off-road fans have been desperately seeking a vehicle with solid axles, big tires and a powerful V8 engine. Jeep®’s inclusion of the 470-horsepower 6.4-liter HEMI® V8 engine in a Wrangler both shocked and delighted the off-roading world while fulfilling their collective wildest dreams,” said Truck Trend’s Jason Gonderman.
Over the course of a week, the Four Wheeler editors tested vehicles in Nevada and Southern California. These tests included accelerating and braking times, on- and off-road evaluations in both desert and mountain areas, and suspension articulation. Additionally, the vehicles were driven at night to test lighting equipment.
The Wrangler Rubicon 392 excelled to defeat many top competitors like the Ford Bronco and GMC Yukon AT4 as well as other models in the Jeep® lineup. In fact, the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe — a plug-in hybrid — placed second in the competition.
