Pickups are wildly popular these days. However, before you decide on a model to buy, take a few minutes to answer a few questions about your needs. That way, you can be sure to get the truck that best fits your lifestyle.
1. What will you use it for?
Will you be using your pickup for towing heavy loads? You may want to consider one with four-wheel drive, a larger body, and a more powerful engine. If you like trucks primarily for their high driving stance and everyday utility, a midsize model might be more appropriate. And if you’re planning to use your new ride for dirty jobs, think twice before you opt for a luxurious, chrome-trimmed model.
2. What configuration do you need?
How many passengers will you need to carry on a regular basis? Pickups come in a dizzying array of cab configurations: everything from regular cabs with one row of seating to crew cabs with four doors and extensive passenger space. In between, you’ll also find double-cab and extended-cab options.
What will you need to fit in the cargo box? Bed sizes also vary, with the most common options being 5.5 feet, 6.5 feet, and 8 feet.
3. Which features do you desire?
Most pickup manufacturers offer a wide variety of trim options for each model. At one end of the spectrum, you’ll find stripped-down base models with few extras. At the other end, you’ll find models upscale enough to rival luxury cars, with amenities like leather seating and trim, advanced safety features, high-tech trailering equipment, and fancy tailgate tech. With all of these options, it’s wise to spend some time deciding which features are must-haves for you and which ones aren’t.
